I'm working on our genealogy. Mary Field lived to be 107. There's a great story about her! The short verison; She came across the plains with the Mormon Handcart Company. Her red hair attracted a native indian that wanted to marry her. Her parents kid her at night in a secret compartment they made in their hand cart because they thought the indian might steal her.
But I found new information today!
Mary Field~
Birth 1 Feb 1836 in Hill, Gloucestershire, , England
Mary's parents were converted to Mormonism in 1840. They emigrated to Nauvoo where they experienced the death of her father and two sisters. Her description of Joseph Smith was, "His voice was clear and distinct...We were proud to call him our leader at all times." Once, peeking through a picket fence, she saw the visit of some Indians to Nauvoo. She was at the meeting when the mantle of Joseph Smith fell on Brigham Young. Her brother, James participated in the Battle of Nauvoo. She made a hurried crossing of the Mississippi River with her bread dough still in pans. The mobs allowed her a temporary return to Nauvoo. Comments: #21. Mary's parents were converted in 1840 through the efforts of Wilford Woodruff.
