Background: I have lived in the Salt Lake City area my entire life. We moved to Utah County because my sweet husband didn't have to keep making a long commute to and from work. I am not familiar with Utah County and honestly, it's like living on another planet! I'm still trying to figure out where everything is! Thank God for Navigation on my phone!! I'm not complaining. We love the house we are renting and plan to purchase it next year. Our neighbors and wards are fabulous. But that's a different subject!
One thing I have noticed living in Utah County is that men are constantly whistling cat calls and hollering things out of their car window at me. Yes, this happens in Salt Lake as well, but it happens to me non-stop and I'm tired of it! It's rude and disrespectful!
On a hot summer day last year, Bryce and I were driving to the store. We were stopped at a red light. I was smoking and had my window cracked open a few inches. A man in a giant black SUV yelled "ROLL UP YOUR WINDOW!" I'm a polite smoker and would never blow smoke into another person's vehicle. Angrily, I looked over and yelled, "YOU ARE THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO ROLL UP THEIR UP, JACKASS!!" The man looked arrogantly looked at me, showing me his 'how dare you speak to me this way woman" face.
When the weather is nice, my 5 year old daughter and I often walk to either the park, the gas station or to get a sandwich and Subway. I wear my wedding rings and I dress modestly. Yet, every time I walk down the busy street, several men hoot, cat call and holler at me as they drive by. How rude!! I can't think of any woman that appreciates this and it makes me even madder when I'm with my 5 year old daughter.
Friday, I was standing in front of my child's school and hear a man's voice yelling "NICE PINK HAIR" in a sarcastic tone. I turned around to see who was shouting at me and it was some redneck in a pickup truck that was waiting for his child. I gave him a dirty look and turned back around.
Some men are complete pigs! Do they really think women take this behavior as a compliment? BARF!!
